From the Hamburg reservoir parking lot
Walk up the crushed stone road, were the road makes a hard right the Appalachian Trail is off to your left. You are basically going to stay on the Appalachian Trail most of the way. After about 4.5 miles on the AT you are going to come to a steep downhill climb along switchbacks until you come to the base of the mountain at Port Clinton Avenue (paved road)
Across the road on the other side of the guardrail the AT picks up, it will take you under the bridge and along a sandy path until you come into the town of Port Clinton. (Penn Street)
Note: if you want to go to the peanut shop which I highly recommend take the second road to the right from that point...at the T at route 61 on the right will be the peanut shop.
If you want to just continue the route when you come into town from the trail turn left at the first road (broad street) and follow this across the bridge. Turn left at the first left into the rail yard. Look for the signs on your right for the Appalachian and cross the tracks carefully and up the bank on the opposite side. The AT intersects with the bartram trail here...turn left on the bartram rail trail and walk 2 miles to the Kernsville Dam recreation area to finish the hike
