Rats, like Snakes, are generally misunderstood from a Chinese cultural point of view. You may wish to include the Calligraphy for Rat (shǔ) in your painting. This can be found on our Zodiac Animals Calligraphy page.

As part of this session we invited everyone who joined us to contribute to a 'Group Rat'. Well done to everyone who took part and painted a mouse, rat or squirrel (tree rat). They look an interesting bunch and it's just a question of who has their eye on whom. We trust that you like the finished painting:

Once the Year of the Rat completed in February 2021, we bid a fond farewell to it with Claire's painting on the left.
