What is it?

On this page you will find the most common terms used in the game and what they mean.  The What is it? page is a live page and may be updated periodically.

Archetypes

An Archetype is a Dot that has certain generic Traits that determine the general appearance of the Dot. Two Dots that are of the same Archetype can look very different to each other due to the variation span of each Trait. Some Dots may also be multiple Archetypes.  If you want to see the in-game reference cards for each of the Archetypes, use this link.

Attention Meter

As you interact with your Dot, you will see the Attention (Happiness if you like) Meter slowly build-up until it is completely full - at this point no more Dot Growth points will be earned unless from a specific Dot Desire. The Meter will decay over time and you don't need to wait until it is completely empty before you can 'play' again to gain Dot Growth.

Chaos!

Some Dots can have what are known as Chaos Traits - these are Traits that do not follow the normal Trait parameter limitations - the potential variations are limitless!

Cosmetics

Also known as 'outfits' these are items to adorn your Dot with and may be gained from the Daily Login Bonus or purchase from the Store. These adornments include, hats, glasses, neckwear and other items.

Daily Keeper Quests

These are Quests set by the Peridot Keepers Society for you to try and complete each day. By completing various Quests you will gain Keeper XP to advance your Level and Sundrops to use in the Hatch-a-Dot process.  You can see the various difficulty levels and Rewards here.

Daily Login Bonus

When you login for the first time each day, you will be given the opportunity to collect a daily bonus. The bonuses rotate in a 30 day cycle. Bonuses include Peridough, Dotnip, Cosmetics, Nests and Eggs-Rays etc. There is no penalty if you skip a day or more, the Daily Login Bonus progress remains as it was the last time you logged into the game.  Tap here to see the current Bonus Collections.

Desires

These are activities that your Dot wants you and them to take part in, by doing so your Dot will start to grow.

Discover

This is the place where you can access Visitor Dots, your Dazzled (rescued) Ferals, the Traits Library, and also where you can upload Dot Cards to Hatch-A-Dot.

Dot

A Dot, short for Peridot, is your companion in the game with whom you can interact. By completing certain Desires that your Dot may have, you will earn them Growth points to enable them to progress from being a baby Dot, through teenage and finally to an Adult Dot.

Dot Bonding

You can start to Bond with your Dot once you have raised it to being and Adult.  Similar to Dot Growth XP, Bond XP is gained by working and interacting with your Dot.  The more Bond XP you earn, the greater the bond with your Dot will be.  If you leave your Dot alone for more than 24 hours, the Bond between you and your Dot will start to decrease, but fear not - it will not decrease completely!

Dot Growth

This is the same as Dot Bond XP, points earned by completing your Dots Desires, petting your Dot and other actions, and also by walking (your game does not have to be open if you have Active-Sync enabled).  You can speed grow your Dot from Baby to Soulmate very quickly if you have sufficient resources and follow the instructions here.

Dot Life-stage

Dots have 3 main and 2 intermediary Life stages.  Baby, Teen and Adult were the original main stages, with Child and Young Adult added subsequently.  Working and interacting with your Dot rewards Dot Growth XP to enable your Dot to progress through its Life stages.  Once at Adult stage, you can then begin to 'Bond' with your Dot - see above.

Eggs-Rays

Eggs-Rays are items that you can use during the Hatch-a-Dot process where you are given a choice of 3 Eggs. Instead of the baby form of the Dot, the Eggs-Ray allows you to see the resulting Adult form. If you decide to re-roll to get 3 different Eggs, the Eggs-Ray still remains active.

Fetch

To play fetch with your Dot simply open your back-pack, select a Ball to play with (the Play Toys are currently limited to various types of Ball), and throw it for your Dot, who will retrieve the Toy and return it to you.

Foraging

By tracing a circle on your device screen whilst looking at something, your Dot will pounce and forage for an item, depending on where you are Foraging, your Dot may find Food items, Play Toys or even Sundrops.

Fullness Meter

Each time you feed your Dot, you will see the Fullness Meter slowly build-up until it is completely full - at this point no more Dot Growth points will be earned unless from a specific Dot Desire. The Meter will decay over time and you don't need to wait until it is completely empty before you can feed your Dot again and gain Dot Growth.  Take a look at the various Food Items there are for your Dot here.

Gifts

Items that you can send to other Keepers that are in your Friends List.  Currently you can only Gift 600 Sundrops at a time (in the future it may be possible to Gift other items).  You can only send Gifts to another Keeper once in any 24 hour period, however there is currently no known limit on the number of Keepers you can send a Gift to.

(And don't worry about running out of Sundrops, those are currently a gift from the Game - not from your account!).

Habitats

A Habitat is a real world location or PoI (Point of Interest) you may be familiar with if you have ever played PokemonGo or Ingress. The Habitats are where Dots 'hang out' and where you may occasionally see local Keepers showcasing their Dots.  When you Forage within range of a Habitat, you will also (outside of any special events) have the chance to be rewarded with either Sundrops (1,000), Dotnip, a Dewdrop or other loot - the current default weighting is about even and Habitat Foraging has a default cooldown of 2 hours.  Habitats are based on a sub-set of PokemonGo POI data, distributed across S2 L17 Cells.

Hatch-a-Dot

This is the process of matching up your Dot with another Keepers Dot, a Wild Dot or a Feral Dot, either via in-game friends or from Habitats, in order to hatch a new baby Dot.

Keeper

You, the player, are a Keeper - a member of the Peridot Keepers Society (or PKS for short).  As you gain in Keeper XP you will move up through the Ranks of the PKS, at each Rank you will receive a 'special' Store offer of perhaps an Archetype Baby Dot and some other goodies - click here for a sneak preview.

Keeper XP

Keeper XP (or simply XP) is not to be confused with Dot Growth points, they are not the same thing. Keeper XP is gained by completing Keeper Quests and other actions to allow your Keeper Level to advance within the Peridot Keeper Society.

Map

This is an overworld map showing you your current location and the location of nearby Habitats in the game. By tapping on a Habitat marker you will see the Dots that are at the Habitat.  Maps are loaded into your game in 'Chunks' based on S2 L14 Cells, each of which are further subdivided into S2 L17 Cells to locate Habitats and Feral Dots.  For more on S2 Cells see here.

Nests

Nests are essential to the Hatch-a-Dot process, they are a mandatory item. You can purchase Nests from the in-game Store, earn them from Levelling up as a Keeper, or very rarely get one as a Reward when Foraging at a Habitat.  They are single use items and only have one purpose in the game, to allow your Dot to Hatch-a-Dot with another Dot.

Peridough

Also know as premium currency, Peridough is used in the Hatch-a-Dot process if there is an option to use it to unlock otherwise locked Traits (see how much Peridough may be required here ).  Peridough can also be used to purchase items from the in-game Store and can be obtained as a reward for advancing your Keeper Level, from the Daily Login Bonus, from Special Events, and by purchasing from the in-game Store.

Re-roll

When you are in the Hatch-a-Dot process you will be given a choice of 3 Eggs, you must choose one (you cannot back out) and you will then be shown the baby Dot on your screen. You also have the option to not accept that particular Dot and you will then be taken back to the 3 Egg screen with 3 more Eggs, that is a re-roll. You can re-roll as many times as you wish as long as you have sufficient Sundrops or Peridough to do so (it will cost you the same amount each time you re-roll).

Socialization

This is the term used for teaching your Dot to familiarise itself with real world surroundings and objects, combining a mixture of Foraging on specific surfaces and visually recognizing certain aspects of the real world.  A brief explanation can be found here.

Sundrops

Also known as organic currency, Sundrops are used during the Hatch-a-Dot process. The quantity of Sundrops required depends on a number of factors such as the rarity of the Traits of both Dots, whether any are locked or missing, and the distance apart the 2 Dots are - you can see estimated cost calculations here. Sundrops are rewarded by completing Daily and Weekly Quests and may also be Foraged at Habitats.

Tracking Dots

When you Hatch-A-Dot, that Dot becomes yours - you are 'Tracking' that Dot.  Tracking simply means that you can access the Dot at any time, play and interact with it, and watch it grow.  There may be an occasion where you no longer wish to Track a Dot, for example if the Dot was simply a stepping stone in evolution to getting a Dot you wanted, or if your Dot inventory list is just getting too long.  You have the option to stop Tracking a Dot (cannot be done with your current active Dot) by tapping on the Dot and scrolling down - there you will see a button to Stop Tracing the Dot; this is a 2 step operation so you cannot release a Dot by accident, and you will get 1000 Peridough in return.  Just be aware that once you release a Dot it is gone forever - you can never get that Dot back again.

Traits

A Trait is a partial sequence of a Dot's DNA, which, when combined with other Traits, provides Your Dot's physical appearance, which may result in your Dot becoming an Archetype.

Traits Library

From the Discover Menu, you can access a Library of all the PKS Traits (original Traits) and Keeper discovered and named Chaos Traits.

Travels

Whilst you do not have the game open your Dot may go wandering off on its own, visiting nearby Habitats, meeting up with other Keepers Dots and may even bring you back presents!

Tricks

You can train your Dot to learn Tricks such as: paw, Sit, Stand, Jump etc. Current the only purpose for Trick training in the game is to fulfil either a Dot Desire or a Keeper Quest. There have been clues however that these Tricks are may eventually be available for your Dot to perform whilst your are in Photo mode, so you can record your Dot's antics, but nothing is confirmed.

Weekly Keeper Quests

These are Quests set by the Peridot Keepers Society for you to try and complete each week. By completing various Quests you will gain Keeper XP to advance your Level and Sundrops to use in the Hatch-a-Dot process. The Weekly Quests naturally result in higher rewards than the Daily Quests.  You can see the various difficulty levels and Rewards here.

Windchime

This is a Store purchasable item that you can use to unlock Dots at a Habitat if they are Blight locked. Think of it as a quick alternative to Dazzling all the surrounding Feral Dots, but with the added bonus that the Dots at the affected Habitat will be unlocked for all Keepers.  Windchimes do not clear the Blight, so you can still Dazzle the Ferals if you wish to do so.  As an added Bonus, the Windchime will attract another Wild Dot to the Habitat whilst the Windchime is active.  The Windchime effect lasts for 1 hour, after which the locks return.  You can tell if a Habitat has been 'chimed' on the map as it will be light blue instead of the usual purple colour.
