DMG Fundraising Committee

DMG FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE

  • Fundraising Committee is a necessary separate entity from School Council

  • Due to limited volunteers, while a separate entity many of the Exec positions are held by the same people as for School Council

  • It is a registered non-profit society that raises funds to support the school at the direction of School Council.

  • As a registered non-profit we have bylaws we must uphold and annual financial statements must be submitted to the provincial government with our annual return.

  • While everyone is welcome to come along to meetings, and actively participate in our fundraising efforts, to be able to vote on decisions and stand for a board position, you need to be a member of the Fundraising Committee.

HOW IS THE MONEY RAISED USED?

Our School Admin Team - Principal and Vice-Principal, propose items for which financial support is needed as the item is either not covered by educational funding, the funding provided does not cover the need, or other grants are not available. Example of this would be the Breakfast Program, for which some money is received through a Provincial Nutrion Grant program, but falls short of the actual costs to provide this program.

In addition to the submitted items a number of 'Celebrations' are included on the budget items request, and input is also sought from parents to what they would like seen supported - maybe someone has a project that would bring benefit to the school community but needs some funding to get off the ground.

At the School Council meeting - open to everyone and advertised through social media, emails, and this website - the items are discussed and a vote is taken as to whether they will be supported

Considerations for funding/support include: does this benefit one specific group or is it a support for a wider group? If its for a specific year group would all students have opportunity to benefit as they progress through the school? Do we think we can raise the money during the year to support this, or have enough money in reserves?
