연구실 소개 / About tribology lab.

Greetings, 

  I'm Young-Jun Jang, head of the Dept. of Extreme Environment Coatings at the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS). 

  Our tribology coating research group is conducting R&D for fundamental/applicational/practical technologies of dry plasma coating facilities and technologies (filtered cathodic vacuum arc, metal arc ion plating, sputtering, etc.), focusing on tribology analysis approaches. 

  The latest R&D direction is the development of multicomponent nano-composite DLC coating process technology for transportation due to the rapid evolution of the operating environment (high temperature → low temperature) as well as the core friction and wear mechanisms in the driving parts, thereby exploring diversification of commercialization technologies and applications. 

  In addition, we are carrying out research on "extreme environments," "future mobility," "space tribology," and "functional and durable coatings for semiconductor components" as research-oriented keywords for technology expansion and advanced research in the field of next-generation tribology. 

  In addition, we are collaborating with joint research institute (Nagoya Univ., Gifu Univ., Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics (CAS), etc.) for active technology exchange as well as domestic and international expansion of existing developed technologies (Hydrogen-free DLC, Hydrogenated DLC, Thick coating, etc.).

  With the human and material infrastructure established to date, we will do our best to become a laboratory that continues to generate world-class research achievements and technology transfer in the field of coatings and tribology.
