The fifth Deep Learning Barcelona Symposium (DLBCN) reflects people's interest in automatic image and text generation tools; it will bring world leaders in deep learning together in Barcelona

The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) will host the fifth Deep Learning Barcelona Symposium (DLBCN), the international symposium on deep learning co-organized by the Computer Vision Center of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), the University of Barcelona, Pompeu Fabra University, the UOC, Telefonica Research, and Dolby Laboratories, on Thursday 21 December.

Deep learning is one of the most influential and fastest-growing fields in artificial intelligence, as well as one of the main drivers of the current technological revolution around AI. Deep learning lies behind globally successful products such as ChatGPT and DALL·E, leading to exponential growth in social interest in this area of data science.

From Barcelona to the world

The Deep Learning Barcelona Symposium focuses on research into deep neural networks and brings together world-class researchers who carry out their research in Barcelona or who trained at universities in the Catalan capital and now work abroad. This fifth meeting will include 25 talks and around 50 posters from research groups in Catalonia and further afield, such as Stanford and Columbia, as well as world-leading companies, such as Meta, Amazon and Google.

The keynote talk will be given by Fernando De La Torre, PhD from La Salle Ramon Llull University, and research associate professor and director of the Human Sensing Lab at Carnegie Mellon University in the United States.

The symposium will also feature leaders in artificial intelligence, such as Ricardo Baeza-Yates from Pompeu Fabra University, Marta R. Costa-jussà from Meta Paris, Aleix Martínez from Amazon Seattle, and Antonio Torralba from MIT in Boston.

The event is sponsored by Meta, the ELLIS Barcelona network, the Artificial Intelligence Research Alliance (AIRA), the UOC's eHealth Center (eHC), the Erasmus Mundus joint Master in Artificial Intelligence, Crisalix, UPF Web Science and Social Computing, and UPC.

La Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) serà la seu el dijous 21 de desembre de la cinquena edició del Deep Learning Barcelona Symposium (DLBCN), el simposi internacional sobre aprenentatge profund, coorganitzat pel Computer Vision Center de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, la Universitat de Barcelona, la Universitat Pompeu Fabra, la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), Telefònica Research, i Dolby Laboratories.

L'aprenentatge profund (deep learning, en anglès) és un dels camps més influents i de creixement més ràpid de la intel·ligència artificial, a més de ser un dels motors de la revolució tecnològica actual entorn de la IA. Rere productes d'èxit mundial com ChatGPT o DALL·E hi ha precisament l'aprenentatge profund, i això ha fet créixer de manera exponencial l'interès social per aquest vessant de la ciència de dades.

De Barcelona al món

El Deep Learning Barcelona Symposium posa l'atenció en la recerca en xarxes neuronals profundes i reuneix investigadors de l'elit mundial que desenvolupen la seva recerca a Barcelona, o bé es van formar en universitats de la capital catalana i treballen a l'estranger. Aquesta cinquena trobada inclou 25 xerrades i una cinquantena de pòsters de grups de recerca del país, d'universitats estrangeres com Stanford o Columbia, i d'empreses de referència mundial com Meta, Amazon o Google.

La conferència d'obertura anirà a càrrec del professor Fernando De La Torre, doctor per La Salle Universitat Ramon Llull i director del Human Sensing Lab a la Carnegie Mellon University, als Estats Units.

En el simposi, també hi participaran referents en intel·ligència artificial com Ricardo Baeza-Yates, de la Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Marta R. Costa-jussà, de Meta París, Aleix Martínez, d'Amazon Seattle, i Antonio Torralba, del MIT, a Boston.
