This is a lesson plan I utilized in my student teaching which connected to an interactive website focusing on net migration across the globe. Working with this interactive website, students were instructed to analyze the data provided and recognize trends and patterns of global migration. This was an assignment which allowed students to use technology in partners and develop the understanding of how data can illustrate patterns that factor into a larger picture of migration as a whole. The website divided total net migration by country or continent and demonstrated common trends within 5 year groupings.
This lesson integrates technology to help students recognize common trends and patterns in global migration. (2F) "knows how to access the tools and knowledge related to the latest findings (e.g., research, practice, methodologies) and technologies in the disciplines".
This lesson focuses on student writing development in a CER (claim, evidence, reasoning) format. This is a skill which is utilized across multiple curriculums beyond the social sciences. Student development in this facet of writing will benefit their abilities in a wide range of subjects. Properly utilizing evidence to support a claim, and continuously connecting the evidence to the original claim is the basis of developing any argument. In this lesson, students are to utilize the evidence found in the crime scene to develop their own claim, hypothesis, or thesis. Additionally, students are to provide justification of their use of evidence and explain how and why it supports their claim for the reader.
This lesson demonstrates the ability to develop activities that support student development across multiple disciplines. (2D) "understands the relationship of knowledge within the disciplines to other content areas and to life applications".
