[DIS]COMFORT: ART FOR UNCERTAIN TIMES is a multidisciplinary exhibition featuring student work that explores the shifting boundaries between comfort and discomfort as they relate to identity, culture, and current events. Featuring artwork produced this semester by students from the Art, Media, and Design department at CSU San Marcos, the show celebrates emerging artists as they approach graduation and step into the next phase of their creative careers.

[DIS]COMFORT explores themes of comfort and discomfort across a wide range of mediums, including photography, illustration, sculpture, installation, video, and digital media. Engaging with complex themes such as identity, culture, the meaning of home, politics, and the body, participating artists either celebrate what brings them comfort or confront the uncomfortable. Blurring the line between the familiar and the unsettling, the exhibition explores the duality of comfort and discomfort, revealing how closely the two can often coexist.

The exhibition will be open to the public, free of charge, and will offer a space for reflection, contemplation, and dialogue on the ways we navigate instability, how we comfort ourselves, and how discomfort can be a catalyst for growth and transformation. The exhibition invites viewers to reflect on their own relationships to comfort and discomfort, encouraging consideration of what comfort means in personal lives and in collective society.
