Before: Students will begin with a notice/wonder. We will talk about as a class what we notice about the book and what wonders or questions we have. We will then create an anchor chart together with our information.
During: We will read the book together as a class and stop periodically to talk about the vocabulary words that may be unfamiliar to us. We would also focus on Sue and what words we could describe her as. (hardworking, intelligent, persistent, etc. ) We would create an anchor chart for this as well. Turn and talk to each other about how we would describe Sue and then share out as a whole group.
After: Students will then write a short sentence about what they read about with a drawing/visual. This will give the students the chance to provide evidence to back up their statement or relate her story to their own lives. They will use the anchor charts as a resource to help them fill in their sentence frame.
*If time allows, students can share out with their classmates in small groups or whole group about what they wrote about.
