Throughout history, humanity has sought to explain the unknown through both science and belief. Across cultures, protective symbols have emerged from the universal desire for safety, guidance, and spiritual reassurance. Whether understood as sacred objects or cultural superstitions, these forms reveal humanity's enduring relationship with the unseen.
Among the most enduring of these symbols is the eye, a motif closely associated with vision, awareness, and protection. Throughout Anatolia, eye-shaped amulets have long embodied the connection between seeing, memory, and the inner world. Rooted in local mythology and folk traditions, these talismanic forms have become an essential part of the region's visual and cultural identity.
This work reinterprets those traditional amulets through a contemporary ceramic language. Symbolic forms embedded within Anatolian cultural memory are transformed into new visual expressions that bridge past and present. Created using traditional underglaze ceramic techniques, the work combines historical craftsmanship with contemporary concepts of perception, remembrance, and identity. By revisiting ancient beliefs through a modern artistic perspective, Eye Amulets invites viewers to look again at the cultural values that continue to shape collective memory, even as they gradually fade from everyday life.
