The Seal of Solomon is one of history's most enduring universal symbols, interpreted across civilizations through diverse religious, philosophical, and cultural traditions. Known in Islamic culture as the Hâtem-i Süleyman and associated with the Star of David in Jewish tradition, the hexagram has carried multiple layers of meaning throughout history.
In ancient Indian philosophy, the interlocking triangles represent the union of the creator Vishnu and the destroyer Shiva, symbolizing the perpetual cycle of creation and transformation. Across pre-Islamic cultures of the East, the same form came to embody the balance of opposing forces—matter and spirit, order and chaos, light and darkness, the feminine and the masculine, and creation and destruction. Rather than expressing conflict, the symbol reflects the coexistence and interdependence of these dualities.
Regarded since antiquity as an emblem of protection, fertility, wisdom, and spiritual power, the Seal of Solomon has been adopted, reinterpreted, and transmitted by countless cultures over centuries. As it crossed geographical and cultural boundaries, its meaning continually evolved, becoming a shared visual language rather than belonging to a single tradition.
This work revisits the symbol through a contemporary ceramic practice, exploring how ancient signs continue to accumulate new meanings while preserving echoes of their past. By reinterpreting a motif that has transcended religions, civilizations, and time itself, the work invites viewers to reflect on the fluid nature of cultural symbols and the enduring dialogue between history, belief, and identity.
