8 - Collaboration

Communicating to share ideas, work on projects and innovate draws upon and develops skills for connected learning and the workplace. Technology facilitates (helps) the process of developing, organizing and sharing those ideas. Collaboration also involves some very important social skills. :)

|Do Now|

Collaboration is all about working with one or more partners. You can work face to face (F2F) or virtually using tools that we will look at today. In both cases, it is helpful to follow certain rules to be a good partner. Go to the Padlet board to post a note with bullet points of helpful tips partners should follow to be nice, helpful and productive!

• Did anyone have time to create with one of the tools from last week? If so, what did you create?
• What questions do you have from last week?
• Note that you are definitely constructing your PLS!

|Learning Goals|

You will...

1. develop a "personal collaboration code".
2. review collaboration tools using our tool review rubric.
3. choose your favorite collaboration tools and add them to your PLS.

|Learning Activities|

1. Go to the Padlet board and post a bullet list of at least 3 helpful tips to help groups work well together (collaborate).
2. Review the Collaboration Tips Google Doc below. Return to the Padlet to post any questions and/or connected ideas that pop into your mind after reading each tip. Remember that ideas leading to thinking which lead to more ideas!
3. Open a note-taking tool from your PLS and write up how you can be a good collaborator. Title it "Personal Collaboration Code".
4. Take a look at each of the collaboration tools listed below in the Tutorials section. The list will be growing as we learn of more collaboration tools. Make a copy of the tool review rubric for each tool and record your review for each tool.
5. Choose your favorite collaboration tools and add them to your PLS chart.

You might already have some of the following tools on your device. If this is the case, open each tool and review them. Note that presentation and video editing tools will be covered in our class on communication. You already reviewed some of these tools for note-taking so this time just focus on how well they support collaboration.
