Are you using all the various built in tools and features of your device? The first step in building your PLS is to really know and use your device to its fullest capacity. Let's get started with your first tutorials. Many of the tutorials come from YouTube. YouTube offers us so many opportunities for learning but it also has some information that is not suitable for children. To help you stay focused on the video tutorials, we are using a tool called Safe Share.tv that provides a "skin" around the video so that you won't be bothered by links to distracting or inappropriate videos. Remember that being a smart and safe citizen means making good choices about how you interact with information!
|Do Now|
- If you use more than one type of device for learning, choose the one you use the most. Go to the Padlet board and add a note listing in bullets what are the main built in tools and features that you know about (the password is the same as from last week). Remember to put the name of your device and your first name in the title. Then do bullet points to list your tips about your device. For the title put the device name and then your name. Ex. iPad - Susie.
- Refresh the Padlet page and review what your classmates are posting.

|Learning Activities|
- Introduction to the inquiry project you will work on during our course. Let's look at the research process that you will follow.
- Go to the tutorials section below to learn more about your device. As you learn new things in the tutorials, stop and try them.
- Research Topic: If you have time, start to brainstorm possible topics that you want to research to create a learning product by the end of the course. For now just open a note to start listing your ideas. In the next class we will look at brainstorming apps!

iPhone>
- GCFLearnFree: This site offers text, images and short videos that let's you choose exactly what you want to learn. Jump to the Extras section toward the bottom of the page if you are comfortable with the basics. But don't forget that what you are really learning about the IOS operating system and not so much the hardware of the phone.
- AppFind iPhone 6: This long video is broken into chapters covering a great many topics. You will need time outside of class to complete this video.
- AppFind iPhone 7: This long video is broken into chapters covering a great many topics. You will need time outside of class to complete this video.
- Video Gadgets Journal Tips-Tricks: This 30 minute tutorial is for students who know the basics of using their iPhone and IOS.
iPad>The operating system (IOS) is the same whether you have an iPhone or iPad. This means that you can also go to the iPhone section above for more tutorials.
- ZolloTech: This short video is for students who are just getting started using their iPad.
- GCFLearnFree: This tutorial is all text and images for learners who want to quickly scan each web page to see what they need to learn.
- Tech Talk America: This IOS 10 tutorial is demonstrated on the iPhone but all the tips are the same for the iPad.

MacBook (OS X)> Your MacBook runs the Apple operating systems called "OS X" with the X standing for version 10. The newest version of OS X is called Sierra but you might have an older version that is very similar.

Android Phones and Tablets>If your phone or tablet is not an iPhone or iPad, it probably is an Android phone. It might be a Samsung, LG or Google Nexus phone. They all run the Android operating system. The Android OS has different versions just like the IOS on the Apple devices.

- H2TechVideos-Part 1: Samsung Galaxy S phones are the biggest sellers so you might have a hand me down from your parents. This Part 1 video gets you started to learn how to use your Galaxy S6 phone. If you have an Android tablet, it is also probably a Samsung Galaxy Tab so use this video to help you better use your tablet.
