Here you are presented with a design situation, from which you identify a problem that needs to be solved. You will then analyze the need for a solution and conduct an inquiry into the nature of the problem.
Online safety refers to the act of staying safe online. It is also referred to as online safety, cyber safety, and e-safety.Being safe online means individuals are protecting themselves and others from online harms and risks which may jeopardise their personal information, lead to unsafe communications or even affect their mental health and wellbeing (What is Online Safety? | National Online Safety, 2021).
Your task for this Unit is to identify a client who has experienced/encountered any online safety issue such as cyberbullying, scamming, invasion of privacy, or attack by computer viruses amongst others and needs a web page to address/solve this issue by educating/guiding them how to stay safe online. You will research your client's problem and create a web page for the client that informs the client how to stay safe online.
The Design Cycle; all the four Criteria (Criterion A,B,C and D) of Digital Design will be applied to assess this particular task.
Give a background information about your client; who is your client?
Explain your client's online safety problem (the particular online safety challenge your client has faced such as cyberbullying, scamming, attack by computer viruses etc.).
Give a detailed justification- why your client problem should be solved/addressed. Describe at least 3 reasons why your client's problem should be solved/addressed.
Explain how your client has tried to solve the problem without success and how the web page will assist your client to solve the problem.
Explain the benefits that your client shall obtain if the problem is solved.
Your strand 1 must have a minimum of 200 words explanation.
Click on the link below to see an example of Strand 1:
For this particular strand you are supposed to formulate the research questions.
Research questions are meant to assist you know more about the problem that you want to solve. They assist you to get in depth information/content about the problem you have identified and want to solve.
Research questions also assists you to know the kind of solutions that will address your client's problem, such as the kind of IT solutions to use to solve the problem.
Come up with a well detailed and logical research plan similar to the one shown below.
You research plan must have a minimum of 7 research questions.
Research questions should have a date of of actual research indicating the day you complete doing your research. You must also indicate and specify the sources of the information you collected; whether it is primary source- questionnaire, interview and others or Secondary source- textbooks, internet and others.
Your research questions should be arranged in a logical order; from the most important question to the least important.

In this particular strand, you;
Analyze/go through any three existing websites that have been created to address similar issue as yours. Analyze these websites by doing a SWOT Analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses and Opportunities for Improvements). State at least 3 strengths, 2 weaknesses and 2 opportunities for improvements.
Highlight the inspirations that you obtained from the analyzed websites which you can incorporate in the web page that you intend create. Such features can include: the presence of accurate information, use of clear pictures, use of different fonts types and font colors, navigation bar etc.
Analyze two different free software used to create a web page such as Visual Studio Code, Notepad etc. State at least 3 strengths and 2 weaknesses of each software.
Finally state the software that you have chosen to use to create your client's web page from the two you have analyzed above and state the reasons why you chose it.
In this section you are expected to come up with a design brief that summarizes the analysis of your research and then links it to the client/target audience problem/need.
Start the design brief by summarizing in a brief your client's/target audience problem and the justification; the reason why your client or target audience problem should be addressed.
Then summarize the findings obtained from your primary and secondary research (strand 2 and strand 3), only include only the information obtained from your research that is relevant towards addressing your client's /target audience problem and describe how the information obtained is beneficial towards addressing your client's/target audience problem.
Summarize the findings from Strand 2: Research plan in a prose/paragraph format mentioning only relevant information that relates to the client's or target audience problem. (Hint: Summarize the answers to your research questions in a prose/paragraph form and describe how the information obtained is beneficial towards addressing your client's/target audience problem).
State the product (Webpage) that you shall create to address your client's problem.
Summarize what you learned from SWOT analysis of products done that will be helpful to you towards the creation of the chosen solution.
Conclude the design brief by:-
Describing in a separate paragraph in detail the key features of the product (IT solution) that you will create to solve the client's/ target audience problem and
mention how those key features of the product you intend to create shall help solve/address the client's /target audience problem.

Your work must have bibliography. Failure to do so will earn you less marks and it might be considered as academic dishonesty because you have done quite a lot of research.
Put bibliography/references such as interviews, websites and others that you consulted for your work at the end (on its own page). Use APA citation style for your bibliography/references.
The references/sources must be placed on its own page in an alphabetical order.
Any work that is submitted without accompanying bibliography/reference will be penalized much. The student who submits such work without any bibliography or reference section cannot get more than 6 regardless of the quality of work done.
Your work must have appendices after bibliography. Appendices can include copies or screenshots of the questionnaires/interview questions and responses or documents that you used to conduct your research/inquiry into the problem.
N/B: These documents act as an evidence that you really did the research and will guard you against an examiner awarding lower marks/grades for your work.
