Didier Francois | solo nyckelharpa
Didier Francois | solo nyckelharpa
The nyckelharpa (viola d'amore a chiavi), is known from Swedish traditional music. In the 15th century the instrument was quite popular, especially in Sweden, Germany, Austria and Denmark. Thanks to Praetorius (17th century) it also started to live its life in our regions in the early days of the German Baroque period. For the past 400 years the violin has been played continuously in Sweden.
Nowadays, however, few people are familiar with this magnificent instrument and its typical, unique sound. Few realise what an exceptional place this instrument has occupied in music history, and what organic power is hidden in its bizarre appearance.
The Nyckelharpa is presented to the public purely and acoustically in a different form than traditional Swedish folk music. After all, the evening is spent in a variety of styles: Bach, Ysaÿi, but also a Spanish buleria (flamenco) or jazz themes such as "Crystal Bells" by Charlie Mariano. Something for everyone, but with a special care for unity through the different styles.
The rediscovery of the nyckelharpa, a somewhat forgotten and for many unknown instrument, is the thread running through this fascinating performance. The richness of its palette of sounds and the rediscovery of long forgotten sounds and emotions will surprise many. However, these sounds and feelings are subconsciously chiseled into the hearts of all of us. A matter of recognising them and, above all, cherishing them!
Duration of the concert: 50 min (without intermission)
Acoustic performance in an intimate atmosphere with a minimum of light - and sound technique.
