PLAYFUL HYBRID SPACES.

SMALL PAVILLIONS AMONG PLATTENBAUTEN

DIAGeD_WS23_designTopic.pdf

Concrete cannot bare tension forces. Therefore 3D printed concrete has one foundative limitation, among many others: this technology can make architecture happen solely in a hybrid form, either with wood or with traditional materials such as reinforced concrete or steel.

From restriction to design possibility. DIAGeD propose as a design topic the mandatory hybridation of #3DPC with wood in the context of a small intervention, such as the one of a pavillion that deals with the idea of a #playful space, as defined by the students. Participants will develop an #hybrid system that could fit the open spaces of Flössergässe area in Dessau, which will be modeled in DIABIM.

Flossegässe is the most interesting zoning plan of Dessau: the city gave here the chance to demolish (and rebuild +40%) or retrofit a complex of plattenbau in a process that is about to get complete.

Check out DIAGeD 2022 design topic : the course will hybridize 3DPC with wooden structure. #hybrid #3DPC
