GENERATE
G1 - Control Strategies
This lesson presents a definition to create different shading system for a vertical fassade and explore Parametrical and State-Change control strategies, making use of the Lean Coding Canvas.
G2 - the Generator concept
This lesson presents a definition from the Generative Design Primer to create different building masses given a site boundary and a couple parameters (offset and floors) together with a design vector of random numbers AKA generator, making use of the Lean Coding Canvas.
G3 - DSC anathomy
This lesson presents a definition for a speculative massing excercise that implement Design Space Construction framework (first published GeorgiaTech 2018), making use of the Lean Coding Canvas. The Bauhaus volumetry is modeled to enable variations variation.
ANALYZE
A1 - Environmental Analysis
This lesson covers the generation and analysis of geometry representing the building "The Twist" by the studio BIG. It provides the generation of the geometry with a desired length and its consequent position in the river, analyzing the DFL of the produced geometry in order to find the most suitable iteration, making use of the Lean Coding Canvas.
A2 - Triello
A tribute to Spaghetti Western - Triello analyzes different design options of an office room and its fassade design, to study the tradeoff among (1) view to the outside LEEDv4.1, (2) solar benefit on the glass compared to lastest german normative GeG2020 and (3) annual sun exposure ASE250, making use of the Lean Coding Canvas and DesignSpaceConstrucion. "When you have to shoot - don´t talk."
EVALUATE
E1 - Scenarios
28. May 2021
This lesson presents a definition to create a complex massing excercise with different scenarios to introduce the optimization of a program and control of computer generated geometries, making use of the Lean Coding Canvas.
E2 - Battleship
04. June 2021
This lesson presents a definition introducing the plug-in Decoding Spaces, in order to create more realistic and dynamic urban tissues, controling the massing with concepts learned in previous lessons, such as the scenario selection, and visualizating the most suitable iterations baked in Rhino.
IMPULSE
I1 - Rules & Data
This lesson covers the course introduction including the design topic.
As an assignemnt, get familiar with Grasshopper.
Did you know that the cours have gathered a lot of knowledge so far?
I2 - the Optimization problem
This lesson covers the Optimization Problem, which is the 1st Generative Design framwork we see in this course, as well as an introduction to Wallacei.
A simple example inspired by Danil Nagy´s article "Evolving Design" on Medium:
Learning comes with practice : there is a lot of material and tutorials on the official Wallacei website to get started.
I3 - Design Space Construction
This lesson covers the 2nd Generative Design framework of this course: Design Space Construction by GeorgiaTech. Check out the academic papers behind it in Online Resources
