On 26 March 2025, ASHRAE Malaysia Chapter hosted a technical talk at the Olive Tree Hotel in Penang. The technical talk was collaborated with Distinguished International Associates 2024 (DIA), generously funded by Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE). The event brought together 45 participants, including 14 students and lecturers from Ton Duc Thang University in Vietnam. The session examined strategies to integrate sustainability into the design, construction, and operation of semiconductor cleanrooms—energy‑intensive, controlled environments essential for microelectronics fabrication—by highlighting ways to minimize environmental impact without compromising functionality. Three industry experts shared their insights:
1) Ts Ng Wei Lin (Jack), Manufacturing General Manager at Maytech Cleanroom Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, on the ASHRAE Design Guide for Cleanrooms
2) Mr Gan Chun Hau (Terence), Senior Project Manager at VC Engineering Sdn Bhd, on Sustainable Project Management in Semiconductor Cleanrooms
3) Mr Law Kok Zhen (Kozen), Sustainable Business Development Director at EMS Design & Consultation Sdn Bhd and President‑Elect of ASHRAE Malaysia Chapter, on the Application of ASHRAE Guideline 0 in Cleanroom Commissioning.
Ideal for fresh graduates and early‑career engineers, the talk provided a comprehensive overview of sustainable cleanroom practices and potential career pathways in this specialised field.

Important Design Considerations
Choosing sustainable raw materials
Raw materials extraction
Less energy used
Building low carbon materials
Implement renewable and sustainable energy in semiconductor cleanroom operation
Design to save the energy, reuse CDW to reheat the main supply air instead of using heater only
Conduct a thorough review of the project beforehand and ensure continuous implementation of best practices and environmental monitoring
Advanced Humid Dip System
Find energy resources that lower price and renewable
Use of energy efficient equipment and adopt of renewable energy resources
