On Wednesday, 21 May 2025, Distinguished International Associates 2024 (DIA), funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering and held in collaboration with the School of Mechanical Engineering, USM, and ASHRAE USM Student Branch, hosted a technical talk entitled “ASHRAE Talk: Sustainable HVAC Industries and Applications.” A total of 92 undergraduates participated, reflecting strong enthusiasm and engagement with the theme of sustainability in engineering practices.
The session brought together leading industry experts to share insights on sustainable technologies and practical approaches that drive energy efficiency and environmental performance in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. Mr. Chew Soon Jin, Managing/Technical Director of NRS Process System Sdn. Bhd., opened with a presentation on technical innovations and strategic advancements in sustainable HVAC operations. This was followed by Ts. Mr. Ng Wei Lin, General Manager of Maytech Cleanroom Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd., who highlighted industry perspectives on cleanroom HVAC solutions and the integration of sustainability into operational practices. Adding further value to the event, Mr. Lukas Radin Anak Peter, President of ASHRAE UniKL, shared his experiences in ASHRAE activities, inspiring students with real-world examples of professional engagement and community building within the HVAC field. The talk concluded with a vibrant Q&A session, where students actively engaged with the speakers, asking insightful questions about industry trends, career pathways, and the role of sustainability in future HVAC developments.
Overall, the event not only broadened students’ technical knowledge of sustainable HVAC applications but also strengthened academia–industry connections. Attendees left with a clearer understanding of the skills, innovation mindset, and sustainable practices that are increasingly vital in modern engineering careers.
