Clinical Mental Health Services at Yale

Mental Health and Counseling

The Mental Health and Counseling department is located on the 3rd floor of the Yale Health Center at 55 Lock St, New Haven CT. 

For urgent concerns outside of their regular operating hours (8:30-5:00), call 203-432-0290.

At Mental Health & Counseling, undergraduate, graduate, and professional students can access care with a team of psychologists, social workers, and psychiatrists for individual therapy, group therapy, and medication management. MHC clinicians also coordinate specialty care. 

They provide free, confidential mental health treatment to members of the Yale student community. They  have a long history of providing quality treatment to Yale students and understand the challenges facing students today. They partner with you to understand the issues you are facing and to develop a plan for treatment that will help you gain the insight and skills to thrive at Yale.

Students can also access Mental Health care through Magellan. 

Behavioral Health, Magellan

Magellan is the network used for behavioral health and mental health support for Yale employees who have Yale Health as their insurance plan. Through Magellan, you can access counseling and care from psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and more.

The Mental Health and Counseling department at Yale Health is for students only. Because of the high demand for mental health services at Yale Health, students can also schedule care through Magellan. After consult with Mental Health and Counseling, you may be advised to seek a therapist, psychiatrist, or other mental health professional through Magellan, due to extended wait times for available practitioners at the Yale Health Center, which are often many months.

Optum - Emotional Wellbeing Solutions

Through Yale's EAP with Optum, you can access mental health care in a variety of ways. All faculty and staff can receive 6 free counseling sessions per individual issue they may need support through, which can be done by telehealth or in person, with Yale's dedicated onsite counselors, Dr. Amy Sceery, and Rebecca Colasanato.  Additionally, access to TalkSpace is available through the EAP as well as support through major life changes, such as becoming parents or a caregiver. Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance use problems by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address a potential mental illness or substance use disorder. 

These folks have had training in identifying signs and symptoms, and how to listen non-judgmentally, to offer support and resources for those experiencing mental health challenges. MHFAiders cannot diagnose or provide clinical treatment - like standard first aiders, they are there to help people stabilize, and access further professional resources as needed.

Krista Dobson

Krista Dobson is a Licensed Professional Counselor whose passion is empowering students to reach their best potential. Prior to joining the staff at Yale University, Krista’s experiences have included clinical counseling in university and community outpatient mental health agencies. Her approach is collaborative and compassionate, informed by interpersonal, psychodynamic and multicultural perspectives. Professional interests include identity development in emerging adulthood, adjustment concerns for students from underrepresented populations, and how power, privilege and oppression influence mental health. She earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Fairfield University.

Krista offers her services to the School of Drama, School of Architecture, and School of Art,
Monday-Friday, 10 am - 6 pm.

SHARE Center

The Sexual Harassment and Assault Response Education (SHARE) Center is located inside the Yale Health Center at 55 Lock Street. 

The SHARE Center provides information, advocacy and supoport to members of the Yale community who have been impacted by sexual misconduct. 

SHARE can help you work through Yale's many sexual misconduct response resources, offers counseling for survivors as well as support groups; they can facilitate access to health services and mental health care; they can help initiate complaint processes or report filing as desired, amongst other services.

Chaplain's Office

The Yale Chaplain's Office welcomes all in the community, regardless of religious affiliation or if you have no religious affiliation at all. Yale's Chaplains offer one-on-one meetings with anyone who would like to talk. Appointments can be made on their "Chat with a Chaplain Form" during the academic year, by reaching out to one of their chaplains directly through email found on their staff bios page, or by calling the Chaplain's Office directly, at 203 - 432 - 1128.

The Good Life Center

The Good Life Center is located on the 2nd floor inside the Schwarzman Center, at 168 Grove Street, New Haven CT. They also have a location in the undergraduate residential college, Silliman College.
