This statement defines job-specific information sent to the JES.
The name section shows the job name:
the JES will identify the job with it
the job output will show it along with the output data
The parameters:
(purpose) (information on what purpose the job serves, e.g. ACCT = recording the accounting/cost of the execution; in many cases it is DUMMY or optional)
'user' (user/owner name of the job, JES will identify the owner by this name in the spool)
CLASS (job priority)
MSGCLASS (job output spool class, defines where the SYSPRINT, SYSOUT etc. is directed)
MSGLEVEL (verbality level of the JCL parser)
NOTIFY (which user is to notify about the termination of the job)
TIME (what is the time limit; upon reaching it the job will be terminated)
REGION (how much memory JES must reserve for the job; in older systems it was critical, now less)
TYPRUN (execution mode)
PRTY (JES2 priority, rare, CLASS has greater importance)
COND (job-level condition, nowadays it is not advised to define it)
In case there are more data giving to these parameters, the (x,y) formula works.
CLASS:
A (normal)
B (long execution)
C (low prioriry)
K (critical, immediate execution)
MSGCLASS:
X (developer pool)
A (operator pool)
(syslog)
MSGLEVEL:
1,1 (all JCL lines and all messages)
0,1 (only error messages)
2,0 (only JCL lines, no messages)
NOTIFY:
username
&SYSUID (actual user)
TIME:
<minutes>
1440 (24 hours; typical in bank batch)
NOLIMIT (typical in long-execution bank batch)
REGION:
0M (automatic, typical in modern z/OS; without it ABEND S878 can be raised; default)
4M (fix 4 MB)
TYPRUN:
SCAN (JCL check, no execution, "dry run")
HOLD (goes into the spool but without executing it)
COND:
4,LT (stop when RC<4)
