Every student enrolled in one of OHVA’s Career Technical Education Programs must take a WebXam for each course in the program at a testing location in the spring. If a student does not pass the WebXam during the first attempt, it must be retaken the spring of the following year, with exception to the student’s senior year.
Every student in a CTE course must also take a WebXam pretest. This test will be administered at an assigned testing location. Not taking the WebXam pretest could result in removal from the program.
WebXam is an online testing portal used by Career Technical Education (CTE) programs throughout the state of Ohio in order to have students participate in end-of-course testing needed for graduation. The system administers Ohio’s Career-Technical Education statewide assessments to Ohio students in qualifying career-technical programs. The tests align to Ohio’s Career-Field Technical content standards as established by the Ohio Department of Education. Educators throughout the state, as well as industry professionals, collaborate to create the tests for this platform.
The Center on Education and Teaching for Employment (CETE) at The Ohio State University, working in partnership with the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) and the its collaborator Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE), maintain this online testing portal.
WebXam provides practice tests, pre-tests, and posttests needed to gauge levels of technical skill attainment. Detailed reporting for use at the local education agency level is available on the testing portal, including the necessary data exports to inform ODE of achievement levels and information related to fulfillment of graduation requirements. Administrators and teachers can also update and maintain student information through the testing portal.
WebXam consists of the following web-based components:
an administration interface where users can be managed and students can be scheduled to take tests
a testing interface where students login and take tests
a reporting interface that allows administrators to run reports of student achievement as needed
Testing Types
Each career path, as designated by the Ohio Department of Education, is divided into competency-based pathways, with each pathway having a designated number of courses. There are courses that cross pathways within a career field. A pathway will have a sequence of courses, generally 8 to 10 courses per pathway. Each course features an end-of-course test that is administered through the WebXam testing portal.
