Des Moines Defenders Parent Code of Conduct
By allowing my child to participate in the Des Moines Defenders program, I agree to actively support the mission, values, and expectations of the organization in the following ways:
Academic Responsibility
I will ensure my child maintains satisfactory academic performance, defined as a minimum 2.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). If my child falls below this standard, I will promptly notify the coach, advisor, and/or program director.
Support of Team Standards
I will encourage my child to follow all team rules and program guidelines, including those outlined in the Player Code of Conduct.
Positive Sideline Behavior
I will model self-control and sportsmanship before, during, and after all practices and games. I will not yell at or criticize officials, players, coaches, or opposing teams. I will offer only positive, supportive comments and will allow coaches to coach.
Respect for All Players
I will show appreciation for effort and good play from both Defenders players and opponents.
Player-Focused Perspective
I understand that the game is for the players. I will support and encourage all athletes in a positive manner.
Character Development
I will take an active role in monitoring my child’s attitude and behavior. I will reinforce that attitude reflects character and that good sportsmanship is as important as winning.
Program Support & Responsibilities
I will ensure all required forms are completed and fees are paid on time. I will also fulfill volunteer commitments as agreed upon during registration or pay the designated waiver fee. (Coaches and Concessions Coordinators are exempt.)
Conflict Resolution Process
I agree to follow the Defenders’ established process for addressing concerns:
I will first communicate directly with the individual involved, in person or by phone (not via email), to seek resolution.
If unresolved, I will meet with the individual alongside the program director or advisor.
If still unresolved, the program director/advisor will determine whether the matter should be brought before the advisory board.
Understanding of Competitive Play
I acknowledge that the Defenders is a competitive program. Playing time is determined solely by the coach based on what is best for the team and its players.
Respect for Coaching Decisions
All game-related decisions are made by the coaching staff and are not open for sideline discussion.
Concerns should be addressed by contacting the coach or Athletic Director at an appropriate time—not during or immediately before/after practices or games.
Confrontational behavior toward coaches by parents or players will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action, including removal from the program.
Accountability
I understand that failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in my family being dismissed from the Des Moines Defenders program without refund.
