Player Code of Conduct

Des Moines Defenders Player Commitment Agreement

By joining the Des Moines Defenders, I commit to upholding the following standards and expectations:

1. Attentiveness
   I will listen carefully to my coaches and follow their instructions.
   
   

2. Diligence
   I will give my best effort at all times in practices, games, and team activities.
   
   

3. Faithfulness
   I will attend all scheduled practices and events on time. If I must be absent or late, I will notify a coach or team coordinator in advance. Unexcused absences may result in disciplinary action at the coach’s discretion.
   
   

4. Orderliness & Dress Code
   I will adhere to the following appearance and dress standards:
   
   

   • No jewelry may be worn during practices or games.
     
     

   • Players must maintain a clean and appropriate appearance throughout the season.
     
     

   • Clothing must be modest and appropriate at all Defenders events, including practices, games, and any event where I represent the program:
     
     

     • Young men must wear shirts at all times and keep shorts properly worn.
       
       

     • Young women may not wear revealing tops or midriff-baring clothing.
       
       

     • Shorts must be loose-fitting and at least mid-thigh length.
       
       

     • Undergarments must remain covered at all times.
       
       

   • During games, headbands, undershirts and arm/leg sleeves must match the team jersey color.
     
     

5. Positive Attitude
   I will maintain a positive, coachable attitude regardless of playing time, officiating, or game outcomes.
   
   

6. Respect for Coaches
   I will respect my coaches and their decisions, including those regarding playing time and game strategy.
   
   

7. Respect for Others
   I will treat all players—teammates and opponents—with respect. I will encourage others and set a positive example.
   
   

   • Taunting, mocking, or ridiculing any player will not be tolerated.
     
     

   • Violations may be addressed with the player and their parents.
     
     

   • Continued violations may result in disciplinary action, including removal from the team.
     
     

8. Responsibility
   I will avoid horseplay and will treat all facilities and equipment with care.
   
   

9. Self-Control
   I will use appropriate language and refrain from the use of alcohol, tobacco, or drugs. I will control my temper and show patience and respect toward teammates, opponents, and officials.
   
   

10. Discipline
    I will follow all team and program rules established by my coaches.
    
    

11. Communication & Health
    I will promptly inform coaches of any illness, injury, or fatigue that may affect my ability to safely participate.
    
    

12. Teamwork & Character
    I understand that the Defenders program emphasizes teamwork. I will avoid negative behaviors such as prideful attitudes, gossip, or division, and instead seek to encourage others and build unity within the team.
