The Department of Education โ Schools Division of Surigao del Norte, through its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) unit, intensified its environmental sustainability efforts in preparation for the CARAGA Regional Athletic Games 2026 by leading the installation of Solid Waste Management (SWM) tarpaulins in designated billeting quarters on March 11, 2026.
The initiative was spearheaded by Division DRRM Coordinator Maricarl A. Malto, with the support of Administrative Support II (DRRM) Jove Orillo, as part of their role in the Solid Waste Management Committee. The activity aimed to promote proper waste segregation, cleanliness, and environmental responsibility among athletes, delegates, and event officials who will be participating in the regional sports event. The strategically installed tarpaulins serve as visual guides to reinforce proper waste disposal practices throughout the duration of the games.
The activity was conducted in collaboration with the Grade 12 Linnaeus students of Surigao del Norte National High School, under the supervision of their adviser, Marites Pandac. The students actively assisted in the installation, demonstrating youth engagement and a shared commitment to environmental stewardship.
This initiative underscores the Schools Divisionโs commitment not only to disaster preparedness and safety but also to sustainable environmental practices during large-scale events. By integrating solid waste management measures into event preparations, the Division ensures that the CARAGA Regional Athletic Games 2026 will be conducted in a clean, organized, and environmentally responsible manner.
