The Schools Division of Surigao del Norte successfully conducted the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) across public schools in the division, spearheaded by the Division Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM).
The drill aimed to orient learners, teachers, and non-teaching personnel on standard earthquake response procedures, particularly the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” technique, followed by orderly evacuation to designated safe areas. Activities were conducted simultaneously in classrooms and offices in accordance with national guidelines.
Division DRRM personnel monitored the implementation to ensure proper execution of alarm signaling, evacuation flow, headcount procedures, and safety protocols. School DRRM teams facilitated the activity and assisted learners throughout the drill.
Post-drill evaluations were undertaken by schools to identify areas for improvement in evacuation routes, communication systems, and assembly area management. The 1st Quarter NSED served as a baseline activity to strengthen disaster preparedness and reinforce safety awareness at the start of the year.
