Certification Process to Drive DePaul SCA Sprinter Vans  

DePaul SCA maintains two Sprinter cargo vans at Cinespace for use on student productions.  

Each van is the same size but with certain differences. The black van is a Mercedes 3500 Sprinter with a hydraulic liftgate attachment. The white van is a Mercedes 2500 Sprinter with a fold up ramp. Both require the use of DIESEL FUEL ONLY. The vans are not pre-loaded with equipment and all equipment must be reserved through Webcheckout’s Patron Portal as needed.  

In order to reserve and drive the Sprinters, students must first be certified to drive DePaul vehicles by Environmental Health and Safety. YOU MUST be 19 or older to be certified to drive the sprinter vans. The following link with take you to the page to begin that process:

Once on this web page, follow the instructions under “Certification Process” which includes filling out the Driver Certification Request Form as well as completing the Driver Safety online course found through the “United Educators Learning Portal” link. As of November 7th, 2022, because of the size and classification of our vans YOU MUST take Passenger Van Safety in addition to the standard course.  

On the Driver Certification Request Form you will be asked for a supervisor’s name and email address, as well as a department/program. If you are not an student employee, staff or faculty member, use Joe Lyons as the supervisor and jlyons18@depaul.edu for the supervisor’s email address. For all student employees, staff and faculty members, you should use your supervisor, manager or Dean’s info. For department/program, use “CDM”.  

When you have completed all of the steps, you should receive an email from DePaul’s  

Environmental Health and Safety stating that you are now cleared to drive DePaul vehicles for 1 year (for students) or 3 years (for staff and faculty). This is a different email than the autogenerated email you receive from United Educators for completing the Driver Safety course. Please forward the email form Environmental Health and Safety to jlyons18@depaul.edu so your name and certification expiration date can be added to the approved list in Webcheckout.  

Once that happens, you will be able to make Sprinter reservations through Patron Portal.
