Running as a write-in Candidate in California
There are several assembly seats that will have no Democrat on the ballot this June. There are several Congressional seats that have several Democrats on the ballot. Perhaps, the Democrats that do not make the primary cut in June will consider running for Assembly instead. Here are the rules.
A candidate can run as a write-in for the California Assembly if they did not file in time to be on the ballot. However, there are specific requirements that must be met.
To have their votes counted, write-in candidates must:
File Required Forms: Submit the necessary paperwork to the Elections Department.
Deadline: Complete this filing no later than 14 days before Election Day.
Votes for write-in candidates will only be counted if the candidate has filed the required forms.
Voters can write in any name, but only those who have qualified will have their votes tabulated.
This process ensures that write-in candidates are recognized and that their votes are valid in the election.
