X | CUT: "Wait, Nile!" Near called out to her, tugging on her sleeve gently, yet it caused the creamette to yelp in pain. He jumped away from her, a confused look on his face. "D-Did I hurt you?" She pulled her sleeves down over her hands gingerly. "No, I’m fine, I’m fine." Near wasn’t convinced. He eyed Nile suspiciously, taking her wrist in his hands and gently pushing her sleeve up to her elbow. His expression didn’t change as his eyes raked over the gashes in her wrists, criss-crossing up and down her arms. But once he looked up at her, she saw the pain in his eyes. "Why did you do this?" Nile couldn’t even bear to look at him. "I don’t know… It’s a way of coping, I suppose…" He traced his fingers over each cut with such care that it caused tears to form in the ex-assassin’s tan and blue eyes. "You don’t have to do this. I can help you."x | PLANE CRASH: His brow wrinkled when he saw the caller ID. Nile shouldn’t be calling him mid-flight, and as far as he knew, she hadn’t been delayed. He pressed ‘accept’ warily, humming into the receiver to signify he was listening. There were a few moments of garbled sound before her voice broke clear of the white noise, halfway through the sentence: "—something about engine failure. I’m not sure, but it looks bad." Worry began boiling in the back of his mind. "What did you say?" Nile cleared her throat, and there was another peal of static. "I said we’re probably not going to make it. The engine— we’re going to crash. Can you hear me? I love you, okay? Hello? I love you." Static crowded over her voice and seemed to steal his, his tongue glued down. His mouth was opening, words floundering around in his brain, maybe a goodbye, maybe an ‘I love you, too,’ but the line went dead before his stone mouth could wrap around the storm in his brain. The dead tone on the line only increased the frantic nothing buzzing around his head until he had to curl up, phone still held tight in his fingers and clutched to his chest.
