Details:
Deacons are responsible for giving the Prayer of Dedication after the offering has been collected at one of the worship services.
During the week before you are scheduled to give the prayer, you will receive an e-mail from Betsey Baesel (usually by Thursday) with the scripture that will be used during the service and some sample prayers, if you prefer you may select one of the samples to read or to incorporate portions from these samples into your own prayer. (Cameron Moore will be our point-person until Lexi Kramer's replacement as been announced.) See an example of the instructions below.
You may either accompany those who have collected the offering as they walk toward the communion table, or remain in your pew and move to the lectern while the music is playing and wait until the Doxology is finished before you begin speaking, then, invite the congregation to bow their heads. You are welcome to read the prayer, but it is important that you speak clearly. After the prayer is over, please say “Amen” and step down and return to your pew or exit by the side entrance.
You are responsible for finding another Deacon to substitute for you if you are unable to participate at the service to which you have been assigned. Since the name of the person who gives the prayer is printed in the weekly bulletin, it is very important that you notify Cameron Moore as soon as possible (but no later than Thursday morning) with the name of the person who is substituting for you.
