For this project we were instructed to research using Google News Search to find two different articles associated with information security/cybersecurity that was published within the last 3 months.
This article explains how a ransomware attack on the Alamo Heights Independent School District compromised the personal information of about 26,000 people. The cybersecurity issue was a ransomeware, hackers were able to access sensitive information such as social security numbers, driver's license numbers, and financial or medical data. The people affected included students, staff, and others whose personal information was stored by the school district. To help prevent identity theft after an attack like this, experts recommend changing passwords, enabling multi-factor authentication, monitoring bank and credit accounts, and placing a fraud alert or credit freeze if sensitive information may have been exposed.
