The purpose of completing this Social Media Impact project was to research and reflect on how social media impacts society today. Also to get an understanding of how much social media we use on the daily basis and affects us perosnally.
After taking the I was not suprised about my results because I do have the tendacy to use it often, my results stated "You're fairly reliant on social media, but there are far worse culprits! Still, it's good to be reminded that UK adults spend an average of 8 hrs 41 mins on screens every day, and 4 hours of that on smartphone apps alone (mainly social media). That's about a third of each day checking apps. Do you need to rethink your social media habits and the amount of time you spend scrolling?"
Overall I do believe I could spend way less time on socials however I think a the word "reliant" is not something that would come to mind to describe my relationship with socials because I go through phases where i dont care to oprn socials and then phases where I am on it more consistantly. in other words I can say that there would prabbly be multiple word to describe how i interact with socials because it depends how im feeling mentally.
After reviewing the social media statistics on Prew Reasearh I found these statistics the most interesting because I personally belive that the Youtube and Facebook numbers seem acurate but the Instagram and Tiktok percentages seem as if they could be off. I excpected them to be higher as an adult who uses social media very often, espcially Tiktok, most like to catorgorize it as google with video because verything on it is so accessible even to the older folks which is why I am surprised about the low percentage.
I think social media has both positive and negative affects on society. Its a great way to stay connect with people share experiences and learn new things but it can also be overwhelming, present misinformation and also take away from natural/organic connections in the world. For example, people compare themselves to other based upon what posted on social media forgetting that people only post the best moments and not all the bad. On the flip side with an app like tiktok videos can be very informative about everyday life some people and even school which sometimes what I like to get opinions and information about. Overall with social media having both positive and negative affects I believe it boils down using it in moderation and not allowing it take control of your mental.
Within this lesson I was able to learn interesting facts about my relationship with social media and triggered my thoughts on how much I do actually use socials, my urge to use it more consitantly spikes or decreases from time to time. I also gained new information about the statistic revolving around the different social platforms and what age groups tend to use them more.
