What Are the Sacraments?
The definition of a sacrament is that it is “an outward sign instituted by Christ to give grace.” The Latin word sacramentum means “a sign of the sacred.”
The seven Sacraments are divided into three groupings: the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist); the Sacraments of Healing (Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick); and the Sacraments Serving the Church and the mission of the faithful (Holy Orders, Matrimony).
