I was the Project Manager of a 4-person team to design a novel robotic arm that could autonomously write the letters of the alphabet on a whiteboard. We successfully completed the project within the 10-week timeline, giving us enough time to get creative with our design before the final presentations.
I was the Project Manager of a 4-person team to design a novel robotic arm that could autonomously write the letters of the alphabet on a whiteboard. We faced a number of challenges in designing, building, and controlling the robot. The project required us to write three random letters on a whiteboard positioned 16 inches from the base of the arm, with the added requirement of incorporating only rotational actuation into our design to promote the use of inverse kinematics. Our design process consisted of three distinct phases - collaborate/assess, implement/improve, and critique/review. Throughout these phases, we compared design ideas, assessed what worked and what needed improvement, created diagrams to help convey our ideas, and ultimately created SolidWorks models, 3D printed parts, wrote code in MATLAB and Arduino, and repaired/assembled the arm. It was a challenging process, but in the end, we were able to successfully complete the project and create a robotic arm that could write the desired letters with precision and accuracy.

I incorporated out-of-the-box thinking to save $800+ on cost and improve performance standards by 12%. I modified 6 motor's electrical components and power supply to improve control and reduce variance by 27%. I collaborated with a team of 4 to manufacture a $500 DYNAMIXEL-controlled arm capable of communication.
