Having (nearly) completed my work on modeling pieces of the baroque and early classical eras, I've recently turned my attention to Beethoven. I never considered that it might be possible to write pieces modeled after Beethoven, the way I have with Bach, Hadyn, Mozart, Schubert and Schumann. For one thing, Beethoven is so tenaciously original in his writing, that it's hard to decide what elements one would be modeling after.
However, upon re-looking at the Beethoven oeuvre, including a re-listen to Op. 18, as well as to all the piano sonata opening movements, I am trying to create a sonata that uses some elements that are, while perhaps not unique to Beethoven, that he specialized in and used superbly to create a powerful energy: repetition, compression, dramatic effects and dramatic conception, spreading out of time and use of interruption, and a distinctive way of using the I-V-I tonal relationship in creating musical ideas and phrases.
