Dr. Chaos Organized Waiver (used to be the Wauction)

Daily Notices

Daily Notice (4/23/2020)

Given the lack of activity in the Wauction, and that what little activity appears to be designed to get a single chip for items, I have elected to close the Wauction and convert it to a pure Waiver. This will bring is closer to the RAOK philosophy of OBC. I have run the rest of the Submissions and here are the final Winners. I have moved over the final Chip totals from the Wauction.

We will run our first Waiver on Sunday at 6PM

  • Good morning all. We we have 49 active submissions this morning, with the last one being #240 so the plan is to run 10 more today. Bid early and bid often. I see 7 of today's potential Submissions with no Bids yet so there are some easy pickings, including some nice 1956 Topps!

  • I'd like to thank the people who have Donated Chips to the game. I'd also like to point people to the sheet entitled "Hot and Not Hot" to show the lots which aren't getting bids as a guide to what doesn't generate interest.

Daily Notice 1 (3/18/2020)

  • Good morning all. We continue to go strong, but people do seem to be slowing down on Bids. On the upside, Jennifer went nuts and Submitted so much that we have 51 active submissions with the most recent being #221 so the plan is to run 10 more today. Bid early and bid often. I see 2 of today's potential Submissions with no Bids yet so there are some easy pickings!

  • Overnight Jimi Thayer used his Winner's Choice on "1970 Fleer World Series x 6, mixed condition"

  • To ease the frustration of the Players who aren't getting Bids on their lots, I have created a new sheet entitled "Hot and Not Hot" to show the lots which aren't getting bids as a guide to what doesn't generate interest. Next to it is the list of things that have gotten a lot bids.

Daily Notice 2 (3/17/2020)

  • Tonight's Wauction ran at 6:04PM, and we have our 10 Winners. Another nice spreading of the wealth, again with 7 different Winners, with 2 from Chapman and 3 for Toback (who uses the MRW methods). • Also of note: Congrats to Jimi Thayer for having his 10th Submission won by another player. Jimi gets a Winner's Choice.

Daily Notice 1 (3/17/2020)

  • Good morning all. We continue to go strong, but people do seem to be slowing down on Bids. We have 37 active submissions with the most recent being #188 so the plan is to run 10 more today. Bid early and bid often. I see 9 of the next 20 Submissions with no Bids yet so there are some easy pickings! The numbers tell me that while we have 22 Players on the board, the number of really active ones is just over half that. We'll re-evaluate tomorrow, and perhaps run fewer Wauctions per day.

Daily Notice 2 (3/16/2020)

  • Tonight's Wauction ran at 6:07PM, and we have our 10 Winners. Another nice spreading of the wealth, again with 6 different Winners, with 2 each from Salinsky, Shirley, and 3 for Kodl. I'll admit to being sad that we had 5 separate Submissions without a single bid. Full set of Winners are:

  • Of other note, a belated congratulations to Mike Rumley-Wells who won his 20th (and 21st) Wauction yesterday. To celebrate, he has donated a Submission to help with the donations used for Submissions that get more than 8 Bids or are selected as a Winner's Choice.

Daily Notice 1 (3/16/2020)

  • Good morning all. We continue to go strong, but people do seem to be slowing down on Bids (but not Submissions). We have 47 active submissions with the most recent being #183 so the plan is to run 10 more today. Bid early and bid often. I see 9 of the next 20 Submissions with no Bids yet so there are some easy pickings!

  • The idea has been floated that we take a day off. I'm considering it. On the other hand, the stuff being Waunctioned off today is from almost a week ago so my sense is that the strategy employed by some of you to to just send a full list of Bids all the way to the end is working well. Basically, we are well set up for people to disappear if they need and come back when they like. My hope is that for those of us working at home this provides a welcome diversion.

  • I will also say that I've been really pleased with how everyone has handled when their submission DOESN'T get a bid. In every case, the the submitter has come back strong. Some people just combine, or add to what they are offering, other people just take the feedback about what doesn't "sell" and come back more creative than ever.

Daily Notice 2 (3/15/2020)

  • Tonight's Wauction ran at 6:02PM, and we have our 10 Winners. Another nice spreading of the wealth, again with 8 different Winners, but with Mike Rumley-Wells cleaning up with 3. In addition, the generous Nate Make gave his Winner's Choice to Andrew White. We had 1 Submission with no Bids. Full set of Winners are:

    • Submission 121 - 1971 Topps Super #28, #62: Winner = D'Angelo

  • Since Mike Rumley-Wells is the submitter of lot #133 which was selected as a Winner's Choice (but had 6 anyway) that Submission as counting as an extra Submission. Toback just had his 10th Wauction won, so he will get a Winner's Choice. We will start asking for a Donation from everyone when they get to 20 Wins (no need to Submit anything extra, we'll just ask if it's ok to take a Chip out of the Bank for you).

Daily Notice 1 (3/15/2020)

  • Beware the Ides of March! We continue to go strong. We have 51 active submissions with the most recent being #174, so the plan is to run 10 more today. Bid early and bid often.

  • Please take a moment and check the submissions with No Bids. People work hard to put these together, and the goal is for the cards to fly. While everyone should feel free to be choosy (and we don't need you to Bid on things you don't need), the idea is for people to both get fun stuff AND enjoy getting to be generous. While it seems counterintuitive we ENCOURAGE you to take so others can give. Only want a couple of the cards in a Submission? Grab it and share the others in an RAOK. Or....

  • Check out the the new idea I'm trying, which is the "Dr Chaos Pack". It's available for Bidding as lot #174. I'm still working out the details, but they can be found on the "Dr Chaos Pack" Sheet.

  • Please take a moment and check the submissions with No Bids. Again, we seem to have a bunch. Lots of fun stuff there for an easy win. On the other hand we have two Callahan lots that should go today with a combined 14 Bids.

Daily Notice 2 (3/13/2020)

  • I have decided that we will do something good for our big Submitters. The new rule is that anyone who offers something where we get 8 or more Bids will get their Submission as counting as an extra Submission. Jennifer Roach's Red Man is the first Winner. We will ask for Donations to help this even out in the end.

Daily Notice 1 (3/13/2020)

  • Good morning all. After another flood of submissions we have 58 active submissions with the most recent being #153, so the plan is to run 10 more today. Bid early and bid often.

  • Please take a moment and check the submissions with No Bids. Again, we seem to have a lot of them. Lots of good stuff there for an easy win.

Daily Notice 2 (3/12/2020)

Daily Notice 1 (3/12/2020)

  • Good morning all. I continue to be pleased by the activity! Another great post-Wauction flood of submissions have come in and we have 51 active submissions with the most recent being #135, so the plan is to run 10 more today. Bid early and bid often.

  • On the other hand we seem to be a victim of our own success. With all the Chips in the bank, and the glut of good stuff to bid on, we have a number of Submissions without a single Bid. While I would never encourage people to bid on things they don't want, I see over a dozen Submissions without a single Bid. The goal is to get lots of cards to fly, not for people to get a good deal. Maybe people just don't want 60's baseball? I'm not a fan of "raising the standards."

Daily Notice 2 (3/11/2020)

  • Tonight's Wauction ran at 6:02PM. Given the large number of open Submissions I again ran 10 Wauctions after the two Winner's Choice decisions (Kodl and Rumley-Wells for having their 10th Submissions be sent out). All but one ran (Submission 67 had no bids so it was removed). Today was a nice spreading of the wealth, with 7 different Winners, with Chapman winning 2, Kodl winning 2, Rumley-Wells winning 3 and Thayer winning 2. Also of note are first time winners Wayne Delia. Full set of Winners are:

    • Submission 73 - 1971 Topps coin (McGlothlin, #9): Winner = Shirley

    • Submission 74 - 1962 Topps #4, 46, 47, 62: Winner = Chapman

    • Submission 75 - 51T Red Back Hank Bauer #24 (OBC condition): Winner = Kodl

    • Submission 76 - 59T Brooks Robinson #439 (OBC condition): Winner = Thayer

    • Submission 77 - 60T Mound Magicians #230 (OBC condition): Winner = Rumley-Wells

    • Submission 78 - 61T Richardson is Hero #308 (OBC condition): Winner = Rumley-Wells

    • Submission 79 - 61 Scoops Vern Law Winner #406 (OBC condition): Winner = Toback

    • Submission 80 - 63 Exhibit Stat Back Bob Aspromonte (OBC condition): Winner = Delia

    • Submission 81 - 64T Bobby Richardson #190 (OBC condition): Winner = Thayer

    • Submission 82 - 65T Frank Robinson #120 (OBC condition): Winner = Chapman

    • Submission 83 - Mickey Mantle 47 66 exhibit (bust portrait, no pinstriped): Winner = Rumley-Wells (Winner's Choice)

    • Submission 97 - 1954 Johnston Cookie #19 Wilson (pinhole): Winner = Kodl (Winner's Choice)

  • We still have 40 open submissions so I'll plan to run another 10 tomorrow. I see Nate Mack had his 10th Submission won today so he'll get a Winner's Choice before tomorrow's Wauctions will run.

Daily Notice 1 (3/11/2020)

  • Good morning all. Another great post-Wauction flood of submissions have come in and we have 44 active submissions with the most recent being #115, so the plan is to run 10 more today (although I'll be driving so I may run it late). The new layout of the sheet has made it easier to handle things so we're in good shape to keep running this amount as long as the stream of Submissions keep up with the number of Players. I think my ideal is to run N_Wauctions = N_Players/2 so the average person can win 3 or 4 times a week, and submit that many (we don't want to burn people out, nor make it too long between wins). With 21 players, I'll try to stay with 10.

  • I have also decided to add an incentive system to Submit and play a lot, and encourage lots of Submissions for others. For now, I'll try an experiment. For every 10 items you have Submitted which have ALSO been won by somebody else, i'll give the Submitter a Winner's choice before the start of the next Wauction. Chris Kodl is the first recipient, and he has chosen Submission 97 (Johnston cookies). Mike Rumley-Wells, is next up but hasn't chosen yet. Congrats and thanks to these players for encouraging so much action.

  • Currently, I have decided to NOT exercise the option/suggestion that we also give people who submit things that get lots of BIDS also get a Winner's Choice. I'm open to feedback, but I have declined to exercise this option for two reasons. 1) It gives people who have better stuff an advantage at getting the good stuff, which I don't like, and 2) It encourages people to put in more coveted items which creates more non-winners for the Good Stuff, which discourages activity. I'm considering a "Coveted stuff only" Wauction, but still have mixed feelings, and would probably run it differently.

Daily Notice 2 (3/10/2020)

  • Tonight's Wauction ran at 6:02PM. Given the large number of open Submissions I ran 10 Wauctions (another new record)! On the other hand, we had no bidders on Submission 67 (EVERYONE is a Barry hater? UV hater? Either way we'll run that again tomorrow or ask the Submitter to sweeten the pot). Today was a nice spreading of the wealth, with 8 different Winners (although Bob Chapman won 2, and took the one card I really wanted... harrump). Also of note are first time winners Joel Gyselinck (who effectively used the Mike Rumley-Wells strategy of bidding on stuff very people wanted to win, and took home two), and future OBCer Jennifer Roach. Full set of Winners are:

    • Submission 62 - 1978 Close Encounters Starters Set of 17 cards: Winner = Gyselinck

    • Submission 63 - 1972 Topps Terry Bradshaw #150: Winner = Chapman

    • Submission 64 - 1961 Topps 167(g) and 199 (vg/ex), 1964 Topps 166 (g): Winner = Thayer

    • Submission 65 - 1953-57 Spic n Span Braves premiums Buhl (EX/MT): Winner = Hutchinson

    • Submission 66 - 1993 Topps unopened pack of 1993 Series 2 (15 cards): Winner = Gyselinck

    • Submission 68 - 1959 40th Anniversary Pin, Chicago White Sox (holder beat, pin looks good): Winner = D'Angelo

    • Submission 69 - 1964 Beatles color #23 & 33: Winner = Roach

    • Submission 70 - 1964 Beatles color lot #29 & #56 : Winner = Salinsky

    • Submission 71 - 1954 Joe Jay #141 some paper loss at the top: Winner = Chapman

    • Submission 72 - 1974 Kellogg's 3-D Bobby Murcer, cracks in the front, card No. 22: Winner = Shirley

  • Still lots of Submissions for tomorrow so send additions to your Want List up to #105. Congrats Winners.

Daily Notice 1 (3/10/2020)

  • Good morning all. Due to generosity and lots of new players at the moment we stand with 44 separate submissions to bid on! The sheet's ability to handle it all is getting strained, but that's a good thing. If you see ANYTHING broken let me know so everyone can see. Submissions up to #105 are available for placing bids, and we will probably run 10 different Wauctions today. Also, while people are being picky about what they want to bid on (that's a fine strategy), I'll note that the popular stuff has lots of bids and there is there is no way to optimize to get it other than to place a single Bid on it. The other strategy, employed by the big winners of yesterday, is to bid on LOTS of things, especially those with few bids. I note that as of 9AM this morning Submissions #67, #71, #74, and #81 don't have a single bid and could easily be won. So, if you don't have a Submission listed on your Want List, now is the time. We'll start with #62 and, depending on the bids, go up to #73 today.

  • For the New Players: Even if you haven't sent in your Submissions, feel free to add something to your Want List. For players in deficit spending, we aren't in a rush, and we trust you, but it's good to get caught up so people have a few days to look at your Submissions before we run them.

Daily Notice 2 (3/9/2020)

  • Tonight's Wauction ran at 6:15PM. In honor of our new members, and a grant total of 44 open Submissions I ran 8 Wauctions! On the other hand, we had no bidders on Submission 56 (we'll run that again tomorrow or ask the Submitter to sweeten the pot), and it was just a few people bidding on everything (you can't win if you don't play). So, get ready for the same names over and over. Full set of Winners are:

    • Submission 53 - 1980 FLEER WORLD SERIES (TEAM STICKERS): 1942 1944 1951 1957 1962 1975 1979 ... ExMt: Winner = Thayer

    • Submission 54 - 1972 Kelloggs ATG #8 Pie Traynor + 1972 Kelloggs #5 Jim Parsons - both EX+ (I think): Winner = Shirley

    • Submission 55 - 1972 Topps Football Alzedo RC (#106): Winner = Toback

Daily Notice 1 (3/9/2020)

  • We have bids on everything until #56. Nobody wants a 69 Drysdale? I don't believe it.

  • For the New Players: Even if you haven't sent in your Submissions, feel free to add something to your Want List. We trust you.

Daily Notice 1 (3/2/2020)

  • Good morning all. We'll plan to run 3 Wauctions today. I have updated the strategy description and hopefully the bid board itself is helping, but there still seems to be some confusion. One line strategy recommendation: If you'd like to Win something put it on your Want List, there is (by design) no advantage to NOT placing something so you can have a better shot for something you REALLY want later. The goal is for cards to fly. When everyone Submits lots of stuff everyone will Win lots of stuff. You can list ALL the things on your Want List. We have no limitations on that. We just do them in order every time.

1 Paragraph summary of how it works (Last updated 3/9/2020)

You can submit something to be Waivered and the Admin will help determine the winner.

Individuals can bid on as many items as they like, and we will collect all entries until Sunday and we will run the every Sunday
