Improving the Staffing Structure at an Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Facility

Early indicators demonstrate improved compliance with identified quality measures of nursing documentation and mandatory training rates. Within 60 days of implementation of the Nurse Manager role, nursing documentation of medication teaching for new medication prescribed increased from 15% or less to 80%. Documentation of medication teaching on discharge increased from 60% to 90% within 30 days and increased further, to 92% within 60 days. Mandatory training compliance rates increased from 59% to 67% within 30 days and to 86% within 60 days of the nurse manager starting. This indicates good progress toward the goal of 95% for all three measures.
