Practicum Reflection
During this Practicum, I developed and initiated the implementation of a new staffing pattern at Pocasset Mental Health Center, a small, acute, inpatient psychiatric unit where I work as the Director of Nursing. I received guidance and support from my mentor, my direct supervisor, and my clinical supervisor, as well as many others both within the facility and outside the facility. The three greatest challenges faced during these two courses were 1) navigating a complex organizational structure, 2) staffing shortages and 3) balancing school, work, and family.
I could write an entire paper on the insights, lessons, and experience that I have gained from my practicum, but I will try to summarize. This practicum has revitalized my passion for my job, has instilled in me the confidence to push the envelope, and taught me the skills needed to achieve my dreams. I have grown as a nurse and as a leader. This experience has also reinforced my knowledge that no one can achieve great things alone, it takes help from every level for a great dream to become an amazing reality.
