Action Research
Action Research
Course Description:
Study of concepts associated with action research; and the processes and procedures for conducting action research. Culminating project is the development of an action research project.
Reflection:
In teaching, our time is very precious and limited. Therefore, some things we know we 'should' be doing tend to get pushed to the side for the more urgent 'have to do' tasks. One of those things is usually formal research on our methods. I know I tend to do what I feel is working, but I really have no solid evidence to back up my thinking.
This course allowed me to take the time and do some formal action research on a topic that was relevant to my students and myself at that very moment. I used my students and a program we were using and developed many tools of data collection to get a big overall picture of whether the program was working or not.
My school is doing Action Research teams during our PLT's this year, so I am excited to be able to share the research, knowledge, and expertise I gained in this course with the rest of my co-workers.
