HVACR

I am currently enrolled in the HVACR program at Tulsa Tech for the 2026–2027 school year and am expected to graduate in May 2027. Throughout the program, I am gaining hands-on experience with HVACR equipment and practicing essential skills such as brazing, manifold readings, refrigerant pressures and temperatures, tubing and piping, and proper tool and torch use.

By the time I graduate, I will have earned my EPA certification, OSHA 10 certification, First Aid certification, and Oklahoma Electrical Apprentice License. My goal is to continue building my hands-on skills and confidence so I can be prepared to work in the field.

Manifold

One of the skills we learn at Tulsa Tech is how to properly assemble and read a manifold. We practice this skill regularly so that, when we enter the field, we can feel more confident and comfortable using our equipment. Repetition has helped me become more familiar with the process and understand how to apply what we learn in the classroom to real-world situations.

Manifold & Temperature readings

In this image, I’m practicing how to properly connect the high-pressure and low-pressure hoses, read the manifold, and determine the corresponding temperatures and pressures. After calculating the superheat and subcooling temperatures, I practiced safely disconnecting and disassembling the manifold following the proper procedure.

Brazing

In these images, I’m practicing how to braze under the supervision of my teacher. I practiced properly assembling and using the torch, taking the correct measurements, and following each step of the process. My teacher was happy with the amount of oxygen I was using.

I then heated the pipe until it reached a cherry-red color and added flux to practice the brazing process. I also learned the proper procedure for safely turning off and disabling the torch after use.

This was only practice and was not intended to seal an actual connection, but it gave me the opportunity to become more comfortable with lighting, handling, and shutting down the torch. It helped me understand the process and become more confident working with it.
