Let's look again at the significance of the Eportfolio by taking a look at its relevance and importance in the classroom in addition to the knowledge and feedback received from Information and Communication Technology (ICT) projects from the past.
Based on the work already completed, there were some positives that I noticed in my plan. I have research based literature to inform and influence leaders to buy in. Additionally, the call to action reveals positives on why the eportfolios are an excellent way to faciliate learning in the classroom. With the onset of mandatory technology use front he onset of the global pandemic, there is a greater necessity to make sure students are well versed in technology in order to enhance learning while using digital tools to promote real world skills for the future. The most important element, my “why” is at the forefront of my innovation project.
As a natural oversight, and through further research, I notice that there is a lack in the professional development for the use of the tools. Although I ensured that the staff would be trained in the technology, it is equally important that students are trained as well. It would have been more beneficial to prioritize time for student skill building both in and out of the classroom for seamless and synchronized use of the eportfolio.
I should also find out more about the infrastructure that is allowed from my leaders and available to me through the organization. Although there are assumptions of my ability to complete the project, the coming of the next academic year may bring changes to the parameters of technology use. This will be important to understand going on in the project. Lastly, I must be solid in the team and the decisions that we make. Through research, buy in from the implementation team is significant and in order to keep a solid foundation for the project, the participators along with myself must have an “eye on the prize” mentality for the use of planning, engaging and following through with the entire process. Furthermore, I should make sure that the classroom and purpose of the project is tightly aligned with the goals of the state assessment and standards in order to push students as real world and classroom learners.
The biggest lesson I have learned from the project analysis side in this course, is that there is no need to start at ground zero. In order to save time, resources and attain a likelihood for success, research through case studies as well as applicable information can help guide the direction of any innovative project. We should be able to learn from the mistakes and obstacles of others and use that information to curtail the trail of more focused learning. Additionally, it is imperative to include the learners more in the process. All of the planning and opinions of the faculty and staff are important, however, the students are just as significant to this project’s success.
Making sure that I acknowledge their abilities and challenges throughout the process will help along the implementation year after year. More so, the greatest aspect of the project is the learning. As amazing as the technology is, its use is strictly a facilitative tool. Without the hard work and understanding, the tool comes up short and the overall goal of the project will be grossly ineffective. I plan to use these lessons to embellish the learning process for the students and myself.
