In the early 1980s and 1990s, the United States National Park Service began an initiative to document the histories of Cumberland Island residents entitled the "Oral History Project of Cumberland Island National Seashore." This project conducted close to 100 interviews detailing the lives of residents in order to better understand their experiences and the importance of Cumberland Island.
Each interview was recorded and these oral histories were compiled into a database. Listed below are the individuals interviewed during this two-decade period, along with the details of the interview, links to the interview audio files, and links to the interview transcripts.
