The number of adult males recorded by the Protestation Return in 1641was 72. A recommended method to estimate the total population is to multiply by 2.8 (to allow for women and children). This would give a population of 202.
The protestation returns were basically a nationwide survey of every male adult declaring that they were not catholic. So not quite a comprehensive census, but the best we have (exactly) 200 years before the 1841 national census (the first useful one)

I have not attempted to change to more modern spelling, thus there are 2 versions of SEWELL - the top name!
In 1641, Culgaith comprised 36% of the returns for Kirkland parish. Skirwith and Blencarn listed 126 men, but unfortunately don't give the breakdown by township.

The population for 1801 (on the CCHT site) was 254. In 1801, Culgaith contained 40% of the population of Kirkland parish, compared to 30% of each for Skirwith and Kirkland&Blencarn. Thus Culgaith was the largest township.
