What happens if my child has to switch to virtual learning at any point during the year?
We have been working to get laptops out to every student and having them practice logging into their computers, Google, and Schoology. If we do have to switch to a learning from home model for any reason, students will access their class materials and meetings through Schoology, the county’s learning management system. Schoology will have our class Zoom link, our daily assignments, and links to any other resources that students may need access to through the day. Parents also have access to their child’s Schoology Courses; using the same information you use for your SIS ParentVue accounts.
Which assessments will first graders be doing this year?
First graders may be taking the Universal Screener, DRA2, NNAT, Developmental Spelling Assessment, and an SEL assessment. Times will be announced as the year progresses.
Will the students get to go on field trips?
We hope so! We are looking into Leesburg Animal Park and the theatre at George Mason.
Will students have homework?
We do not assign homework in first grade. However, we are planning on bringing back "take home reading" folders so that students can practice reading books at their level at home.
Do I need to pack a snack?
Yes. Students have a long day and we eat lunch at 11:40. They are hungry by the afternoon and a healthy snack is important to sustain their energy.
Can I eat lunch with my students?
As of right now, no. Due to the need to be socially distant in the cafeteria, all available space is being utilized for student seating. Any extra adults would shift an entire class' seating arrangement.
