SCENT traces its roots to the Research and Development Center for Engineering Emerging Technologies (RDCEET), originally proposed in 2019 to strengthen Cebu Technological University’s research capability in emerging engineering fields. RDCEET was envisioned to build faculty and student competency, expand research linkages—especially through CTU’s affiliation with the Central Visayas Consortium for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (CVCIEERD)—and establish priority research areas such as AI, IoT, automation, robotics, sustainable energy, and precision agriculture.
As the scope and ambitions of the center expanded, a strategic reorganization was initiated. In 2024, RDCEET was re-envisioned and formally transformed into the Sustainable Center for Engineering and Next-generation Technology (SCENT), marking a shift toward broader interdisciplinary innovation, stronger industry collaboration, and a mission to drive sustainable and intelligent systems for regional and national development.
