A currently unidentified hacker, hacked into Rome's region's website from abroad and made it impossible to sign up for Covid-19 vaccinations through the online registration system. Appointments for the vaccine that have already been registered are still going to be held up to August 13th, 2021. The only delay will be data registration since all the data in now being entered manually. Since this is an ongoing problem, they are not yet sure of how to stop it from happening again and are worried for the other regions in Italy.
On July 9th 2021, a wiping malware was sent to attack the Iranian Railways. This is considered to be a new malware called Meteor. This attack wiped the system and made it nearly impossible to reboot. This attack affected the passengers since they will no longer have the information or capability to travel. The attackers also took control of the display board and sent the phone number to the office of the supreme leader to call for the inconvenience of the cyber attack.
The USA was hit with a "Colossal" ransomware attack that targeted the IT company Kaseya, in Florida. After this attack hit Kaseya it attacked the corporate networks that uses their software resulting in about 200 US businesses. Huntress Labs said they believe the ransomware group REvil is responsible for this attack. To protect it's consumers, Kaseya stated for everyone who's using the VSA tool to immediately shut their servers down because it may have been compromised.
