Project Description

For this project, I had to search for and find examples of information security and cybersecurity in the news- related articles. I then shared and evaluated these examples on my portfolio page.

Ransomware Gang Encrypted Nevada Government's System 

This article shares a ransomware attack on the State of Nevada, explaining how hackers breached its systems to deploy ransomware and the actions taken to recover from the incident. A ransomware attack involves locking the systems and demanding a large payment to restore access. This is one of the most common types of cyber attacks that can affect government agencies and companies. To prevent such incidents, it is important to use strong and unique passwords,  keep software and systems updated, and remain cautious when opening new emails or clicking unfamiliar links.

Anyone Can Be a hacker With AI

This article explains how phishing scams can happen with the help of AI. A phishing scam involves pretending to be a trustworthy source, such as a company, bank, or even a colleague in order to trick people into giving away sensitive information. In today's world, advanced AI has  both pros and cons. Unfortunately, for those involved in cybercrime ,AI can be a powerful tool to scam people, as it allows them to create convincing content and impersonate others to steal personal data. To prevent this type of incident, we must remain alert and aware of what is legitimate source and what appears suspicious. It is important to be knowledgeable about cybercrime and its consequences,as these can be harmful to individual and society as a whole.

Lessons learned

I was overwhelmed and shocked after reading and seeing so many news about cybercrimes and attacks. In the past,I did not pay much attention to scams or phishing, but after exploring numerous articles, I have realized how serious and widespread these issues are. From now on,, I will be more alert and mindful when using technology and interacting online.
