This project is about exploring how social media is impacting me as well as a society itself.
When I got the result after taking the "AM I ADDICTED TO SOCIAL MEDIA?" QUIZ, I found out that I used Social Media a lot as stated.
You're fairly reliant on social media, but there are far worse culprits! Still, it's good to be reminded that UK adults spend an average of 8 hrs 41 mins on screens every day, and 4 hours of that on smartphone apps alone (mainly social media). That's about a third of each day checking apps. Do you need to rethink your social media habits and the amount of time you spend scrolling?
Yes,I need to rethink my social habits. Even though I consider myself a fair or average user, sometimes I waste too much time on social media that could have been spent more productively.I definitely want to decrease my usage and improve the way I engage with social media.
The most interesting statistic that caught my attention from the Pew Research articles was how social media use varies across different age groups. As a Snapchat and Instagram user, I found that this data closely matches my own social media habits.
In my opinion, social media has both negative and positive impacts on society. I have some friends who use TikTok everyday; they go live, promote products they have purchased, and even earn money as a side source of income. Similarly, on Youtube, people create and share content, and by doing so they can earn a significant amount of money, which I think is one of the best aspects of social media.
However, there are also negative impacts. Many people focus more on their social media presence than on their real social lives. In addition, some individuals misuse social media by scamming others, launching cyber attacks, or committing crimes, which represents the darker side of these platforms.
Although my results show that I am fairly reliant on social media, I believe that I should reduce the number of hours I spend on it and instead use that valuable time for more productive activities, such as focusing on my career and supporting my mental health. I also learned that how easily people can become addicted to social media, whether intentionally or unintentionally. limiting my time on these platforms will definitely benefit me socially, emotionally, and mentally.
