An ensemble afternoon where musicians come together to build ensemble skills, and learn new music.
Join us for an inspiring ensemble afternoon where musicians come together to develop ensemble skills and enjoy learning new music in a supportive, relaxed environment. Led by professional musicians with extensive ensemble experience, sessions focus on collaboration, listening, and musical confidence. A wide range of genres will be explored, offering variety and challenge. Participants should be able to read sheet music and play at Grade 5 level or above. The afternoon includes a break with refreshments, giving everyone a chance to relax, connect, and recharge before making more music together.
The Musical Zoo is a lively storytime and activity session for ages 4–6, where children explore animal stories through music, movement, instruments, and imaginative play. Songs, sounds, and hands-on activities encourage creativity, listening skills, and confidence in a fun, welcoming environment designed especially for young learners.
This hands-on DIY Junk Instruments workshop for ages 4–10 invites children to create their own musical instruments using recycled materials. Through playful building and experimentation, participants explore sound, rhythm, and creativity while learning how everyday objects can be transformed into exciting tools for music-making in a fun, supportive environment.
This children’s ensemble music session brings young musicians together to play and learn as a group. Participants develop listening, teamwork, and performance skills while exploring new pieces in a supportive, fun environment. The session encourages creativity, confidence, and a love of making music collaboratively.
Join our engaging songwriting workshop designed for ages 10 and up! Explore the art of writing lyrics, crafting melodies, and creating your own original songs. Through fun, interactive exercises, you’ll develop your musical ideas, express your unique voice, and gain confidence in performing. No experience needed—just bring your creativity!
Join our inclusive folk circle for ages 10 and up! All levels and all instruments are welcome. Learn new songs, play together, and discover the stories behind each tune. Connect with others, explore traditional and contemporary folk music, and enjoy a fun, supportive space for creativity and musical growth.
Discover the exciting connection between music and art in this creative, hands-on workshop! Designed for all abilities and ages 10+, this session invites everyone to actively participate in both making music and creating visual art. You don’t need to be an expert—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to have a go.
Throughout the workshop, participants will explore how music can inspire visual artwork and, in turn, how visual art can inspire musical ideas. You’ll be encouraged to experiment, respond, and collaborate, creating a rich, interactive experience where each piece of music and art evolves from the other.
No instrument? No problem! We’ll provide a range of percussion, keyboards, and other accessible instruments, so everyone can join in and play. Similarly, a variety of art materials will be available for participants to explore different ways of expressing ideas visually.
By the end of the session, everyone will have experienced the joy of creating both music and art, learned new ways to connect the two forms, and enjoyed a fun, supportive environment where experimentation and creativity are at the heart of the process.
Step behind the scenes of Ritualis and bring your creativity to life in this exciting workshop! Participants will have the unique opportunity to get involved in designing and creating sets, props, and costumes for a show performed as part of York International Women’s Week. This is a rare chance to contribute directly to a professional production and see your ideas come alive on stage.
Guided by experienced backstage crew and the cast of Ritualis, you’ll learn practical skills in set and costume design, prop-making, and stagecraft, while gaining insight into the collaborative process of theatre. Everyone will have the chance to experiment, make, and contribute, whatever their experience level—just bring your enthusiasm and creativity!
As part of the workshop, participants will also enjoy an exclusive preview of Ritualis, seeing the show before its public performance. Your designs and creations won’t just stay on the table—they will become part of the real production, adding your personal touch to the performance and celebrating the spirit of collaboration.

Students at Crescendo are offered the opportunity to perform throughout the year both solo and in groups.
Students are given the opportunity to play together whether thats in Group lessons, Ensembles or Workshops
