Book 1 is first in a series of 3 planned for release in the next one - three years. The premise for Book 1 was born while the author, Cheryl McCurdy Christensen was teaching at Grand Canyon University and the dean told her she had no credentials and no business being at the University.
Not letting that get her down, she informed the dean of her intent to do Market Research, built a survey in SurveyMonkey and posted #DesignStudios - What are design schools not teaching students you wish they would on Twitter and Facebook.
Next she located the standards for schools teaching design and built a framework for the program. Together with her dean, Curriculum Development, and Subject Matter Experts, a proposal was submittal to the Higher Learning Commission.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities are transferrable and that is the message in Book #1. A solid K-12 education can prepare anyone to do amazing things.
Book 2 is already in the works as Cheryl is enrolled at Harvard University pursuing a Certificate in Business Analytics. What credentials are needed to stay relevant and compete in the 4th Industrial Age?
Data, Machine Learning, Block Chain, Robotics are digitally transforming organizations with new processes, platforms, recruiting but introducing new privacy and ethical concerns. AI is being used to transform Sales Processes, People Analytics are transforming Human Resource Departments and Compensation, Product Managers are creating new innovative offerings daily as industry demands change. Organizations should be "exploring and exploiting" their assets to remain relevant. (Reference Charles A. O'Reilly III & Michael L. Tushman)
While supporting the 2020Census in Seattle, Washington in the Spring of 2020 during the COVID19 Pandemic, Cheryl met several very credentialed professions holding PhDs, MBAs, MAs, MS, but in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s and unable to find work in the Seattle area. Their stories were discouraging but the Federal Government needed Census workers and so we were available to help out.
Book 3 is also in draft outline form as Cheryl finishes her Dissertation for her PhD in Educational Technology. She recently completed the last class before her Dissertation series, and has formulated her problem statement and purpose of the study. She will study the introduction of Career & College Readiness at the Elementary School level with an emphasis on STEAM topics.
How are institutions of higher learning being impacted by the Digital Transformation? Are the K-12 schools "exploring and exploiting" digital opportunities? Why are masses of educated parents pulling their children out of our public schools and home schooling them? These issues will be discussed in the final book in the Credential Series.
In the meantime, Cheryl and her husband, Bruce, are building Data2Develop, LLC, a talent management, learning and development consultancy with demand for people analytics growing. They also provide start-ups with recommended cloud offerings to launch their ideas and scale their businesses.
